Area of Expertise: Photography

Robert teaches studio photography courses that combine an interdisciplinary approach to the photographic medium.

Robert received a B.F.A. degree from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1990. In 1994 he received an M.F.A. degree from the University of New Mexico. Since the mid 1990’s Robert has forged an artistic collaboration with partner and wife, Shana ParkeHarrison. Together they continue to create staged photographic images and sculptures that explore a poetic narrative based on the triangular relationship of humans, technology and nature. Their works can be found in museum collections such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Museum of Photographic Artist in San Diego, Williams College Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and Galerie im Stadtmuseum, Jena, Germany. They have exhibited their work at the Jack Shainman Gallery in New York, Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago, Mudam Luxembourg Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean in Luxembourg and Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve in Paris, France.

The ParkeHarrisons have received awards from the Nancy Graves Foundation, Guggenheim Fellowship, the Roswell Artist-In-Residence and the Sirius Art Center Artist-In-Residence in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland.

The ParkeHarrisons have two monographs, The Architect’s Brother (1999) and Counterpoint (2008). Both books are published by Twin Palms Twelve Trees Press.

Their work is represented by Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago and Slete Gallery in Los Angeles.
