Borderlands

Activists, artists, scholars, and the community will have opportunities to engage together through in-person and virtual lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and more, highlighting a variety of perspectives from and about the borderlands, Sept. 18 through Oct. 16.

Announcements

President’s office hours 

President Conner will hold open office hours from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, and from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to request a 10-minute, in-person appointment. To register, please email presoff@skidmore.edu. Requests will be handled in the order they are received, and additional open office hours will be announced throughout the year.

‌‌Michael T. Casey memorial and celebration of life

A memorial and celebration of life honoring former Collyer Vice President for Advancement Michael T. Casey, who died in August, will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, in Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall, Arthur Zankel Music Center. A reception will follow in the Glotzbach Atrium, Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences. All are welcome.

 

Campus flu clinics, COVID-19 information  

Students and employees can register for campus flu clinics on Sept. 21 and 22.  The everyone 6 months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 illness this fall and winter, and Skidmore will host COVID-19 vaccine clinics once updated vaccines are made available. Skidmore remains a mask-supportive and mask-friendly community, and employees and students may pick up masks from Campus Safety. Departments may also pick up masks from Facilities. Employees concerned about a possible workplace exposure and students may pick up tests from Campus Safety’s outside window in the Jonsson Tower parking lot. Post office open for limited service only  

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the post office window will only be open for package pickup and prepaid shipping (taped and ready to mail). There will be no stamp sales nor non-prepaid shipping until further notice. In addition, all on-campus deliveries have been temporarily suspended. Please send a department representative to pick up deliveries at the post office until we are able to return to normal business.

Emergency alert testing

Campus Safety will be testing the siren and Skidmore Urgent Notification System (SUNS) at 1 p.m. Friday, September 22, for about 15 minutes. If you do not hear the siren, please call Campus Safety (ext. 5567) or email campus-safety@skidmore.edu. If you are signed up for SUNS notifications and do not receive a text message and/or phone call, please email Lori Parks or Campus Safety.

 

Tennis facility update  

The outdoor tennis courts at McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center are now open for use. The courts will be available for students, faculty, staff and retirees during open recreation hours: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday through Sunday. (Weekend court hours may vary based on varsity team competition and practice schedules.) Tennis classes are available to staff and faculty through the . 

 

"Visions and Values" survey 

All members of Skidmore's community are encouraged to participate in a  and share feedback on themes that best match their sense of Skidmore’s key commitments and values. The survey, part of Skidmore’s continuing Visions and Values initiative, should only take a few minutes to complete and is available through Sept. 26.

Children’s swimming lessons

The Skidmore swimming and diving team is offering children’s swimming lessons this fall. Lessons are for children 4 years and older and will take place on Thursdays beginning Sept. 28. Sign-ups will be in person at the Williamson Sports Center lobby from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14. Contact Coach Jill Greenleaf for complete program information.

Fall 2022 student textbook survey results

‌College Librarian Marta Brunner recently presented the results of the Student Textbook Affordability Survey that was administered at Skidmore in Sept. 2022. of that 30-minute presentation is available to all students, staff, and faculty 

 

Lilly Kishore ’21 Memorial Blood Drive

‌The Women’s Lacrosse Team is partnering with the American Red Cross to host the third annual Lilly Kishore '21 Memorial Blood Drive in the Intramural Dance Gym, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22. To schedule an appointment, visit and use the sponsor code łÔąĎ±¬ÁĎ.

L.L. Bean “Boot Mobile” campus visit 

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, L.L. Bean will bring its touring pop-up shop experience, the “Boot Mobile,” to Skidmore College’s South Park Lawn. Products will be available onsite for sale and will include L.L. Bean iconic pieces such as boots, flannels, and more.

2023 McCormack Endowed Visiting Artist-Scholar Residency  

The Sept. 25-29 residency brings former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove and composer Richard Danielpour to campus for the premiere of Danielpour’s “The Unhealed Wound,” a Skidmore-commissioned song cycle based on Dove’s “Playlist for the Apocalypse.” The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in Arthur Zankel Music Center. From 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in Gannett Auditorium, Dove and Danielpour present “Artists in Conversation,” moderated by faculty members April Bernard and Teisha Duncan. Seating will be first come, first served.   

 

Compost bins for departments and residences

All residence halls and apartment buildings should have received a blue compost pickup bin during the first week of classes. Register your department for the program by filling out . Learn more about online or by contacting the compost managers. 

 

Tuition benefit and Tuition Exchange Program session

Staff members from Admissions, Financial Aid, and Human Resources will lead a workshop addressing admission and financial aid requirements and offering an overview of the Tuition Exchange Program from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Emerson Auditorium. The session should be particularly helpful to Skidmore employees with high school age dependents who plan to apply for Skidmore's internal or external tuition benefit programs, including the Tuition Exchange Program. 

 

CDPHP Cycle! bike-share 

‌‌Anyone with a skidmore.edu email address can register for CDPHP Cycle! To register, download the app to your phone, subscribe with your Skidmore email address, submit promo code "Skidmore," enter a debit/credit card for incidentals, and you're ready to ride. There is a this weekend for Skidmore’s fall teams. In the first competition on the new outdoor courts of the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center, women’s tennis will host several teams in a “random draw” tournament Sept. 15-17. The soccer teams will play a home double header on Sept. 16, with the men hosting New Paltz at 1 p.m. followed by the women’s contest with Mount St. Mary College.
