Staff, faculty, and retirees from across campus came together at this year’s Retirement and Recognition Ceremony to enjoy good food, good company, honor colleagues, and celebrate the achievements and milestones of the Skidmore community.

More than 1000 alumni from classes ending in 4 and 9 returned to Skidmore for Reunion 2024, an event featuring beaming faces, full hearts, cherished traditions, and record-breaking giving.

Summer at Skidmore

 

‌The Mostly Modern Festival, an international music festival that celebrates modern music in all its diversity, returns for its fifth season. Concerts are held in Zankel Music Center. Tickets can be purchased or at Zankel Box Office. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend free of charge by showing their Skidmore ID.

‌‌Institutional Diversity and Wyckoff Center present Pride 2024 

‌During LGBTQ+ Pride Month this June, please take a moment to view the progressive Pride flags hanging in Porter Plaza and inside Case Center. Wyckoff Center also welcomes the Skidmore community to an event on Tuesday, June 18. More details will be shared in next week’s Bulletin.

‌Juneteenth celebration at the Tang 

‌All are invited to attend a at the Tang Teaching Museum from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. The family-friendly event will feature freedom- and Juneteenth-themed arts and crafts, storytelling for children, food, and live performances.

Campus closures and renovations

Beginning this week, several areas of campus will be undergoing renovations: ‌

  • ‌The covered walkway between Ladd Hall and the Dining Hall and a portion of Case Lot will be closed through the end of August. The CDTA bus stop will be relocated to the Sports Center Lot until further notice. ‌
  • ‌The main sidewalk to the Williamson Sports Center will be closed as work continues on the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center. Access will be relocated to the other side of the Dance Center. ‌
  • ‌The Annex will be undergoing renovations in preparation for the permanent relocation of the Campus Safety Office. Move dates to come later this summer. ‌

Dining Services

Summer hours

During the summer months, the Spa will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A breakfast menu will be available from 8 to 11 a.m.; hot soup and a deli menu will be available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Grab and go items will be sold in Burgess Café. More information about Dining Services' hours of operation is available on the Dining Services website.

‌Pop-up grill ‌ ‌

Dining Services is now offering a pop-up grill on Porter Plaza, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. The grill menu features hotdogs, burgers (both beef and plant-based), and grilled chicken sandwiches. A combo meal includes your choice of a grill item, two sides, and a beverage for $7.99. In the case of rain, the pop-up grill will be relocated to inside the Spa.

Announcements

Mariel Martin named Wyckoff Center director 

‌The Office of Institutional Diversity welcomes Mariel L. Martin as director of the Wyckoff Center effective May 29. With their B.A. from Shippensburg University and M.A. from the University of Chicago and their extensive background in student affairs and strong work in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Mariel was selected to lead Wyckoff Center from a highly competitive and robust pool of candidates. Many of us know Mariel from their nearly 17 years of outstanding service to Skidmore, culminating in their role as associate dean of student affairs for campus life and engagement from 2015-2021. Mariel will shape Wyckoff Center’s vision and continue to bring life to the important cultural space on campus. They will also lead an upcoming June Pride Event, In It 9 during the last week of September, and our annual Lovefest.

‌‌Skidmore discount at SPAC

‌All employees are eligible to receive a 20% discount on ticket purchases to Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival (June 29-30), New York City Ballet (July 9-13), and Philadelphia Orchestra (July 31-Aug. 3) performances. ‌‌Summer Bulletin publication schedule ‌

‌Through Aug. 21, the Bulletin will be distributed to faculty and staff only. It will also be posted . The Bulletin will not be published the weeks of June 19 and July 3. Submissions to the Faculty-Staff Achievements section will not be accepted over the summer and will be accepted again in the fall. SWB will resume distribution to students on Aug. 28. by completing the online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Please email swb@skidmore.edu if you have questions.‌
