Darren Drabek, academic counselor, Student Academic Services, has been elected to a five-year term on the Saratoga Springs Library Board of Trustees. His term begins in August.
Jay Rogoff, visiting assistant professor of English, read from and signed copies of his new book of poems, Venera, April 17 at Northshire Bookstore in Saratoga Springs. He appeared on WAMC's Roundtable program on April 21, where he read from Venera and discussed his poetry with host Joe Donahue. Listen . On April 3 he visited Mount Holyoke College, where he discussed poems inspired by paintings and paintings inspired by poems with art history professor Ajay Sinha's interdisciplinary first-year seminar on writing and the visual arts.
Publications
Barry Goldensohn, professor emeritus of English, is the author of The Hundred Yard Dash Man, New and Selected Poems (Fomite Press, 2014). According to the publisher鈥檚 web site, 鈥淚n dedicating this volume of poetry to his father, who was a championship runner in his time, Goldensohn compares the lyric poem to the hundred yard dash.鈥� Read .
Dan Nathan, associate professor and chair, Department of American Studies, previewed his essay 鈥淏aseball as the National Pastime: A Fiction Whose Time Has Passed,鈥� at the spring-semester Skidmore Research Colloquium. The essay has just been published in a special edition of the International Journal of the History of Sport. Read more.
Jay Rogoff, visiting assistant professor of English, has published "Tell Us a Story, Mr. B," an essay-review of New York City Ballet performances of George Balanchine's La Sonnambula, Prodigal Son, and Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, in The Hopkins Review, Vol. 7, No. 2 (Spring 2014). He also reviewed Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty: A Gothic Romance, performed at Proctors Theater, Schenectady, for Ballet Review, Vol. 42, No. 1 (Spring 2014).
