Skidmore Spotlight: Rebecca Shepard
Rebecca Shepard is the curatorial assistant and interim director of the Schick Art Gallery. She also held a previous position as an adjunct in the Art Department. Before Skidmore, Shepard held multiple art education and curatorial positions, including serving as a gallery director for the Art Center of the Capital Region.
“Gallery work in an academic setting combines two things I care deeply about,” Shepard said. “I love working with students and I love organizing and installing exhibitions. Skidmore is unique in that it’s rich in all the arts, as well as many other areas. There’s always something interesting happening on campus.”
Shepard shared that one of her favorite Skidmore events is the Juried Student Exhibition at the Schick. “It’s exciting to see what students are making and so many different materials and personal visions in the gallery all at once,” she said.
When not at Skidmore, Shephard said her favorite pursuits are reading, walking in the woods with her dog, and making “vaguely art-like” things in her studio.
