Hédi Jaouad, professor of French and a recipient of a Fulbright award to Tunisia, published (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). The book charts Robert Browning’s early and enduring engagement with the East, particularly the Arab world. Jaouad highlights the complexities of Browning’s poetry, revealing Browning’s resistance to triumphalist and imperialist forms of Orientalism generated by many nineteenth-century British and European literary and scholarly portrayals of the East.
Steve Ives, assistant professor and associate chair in the Department of Health and Human Physiological Sciences, published, with student collaborators RJ Caruso ’18, Kelsey Denby ’18, Emily Schlicht ’18, Alexs Matias ’18, and Monique Dudar ’20, in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Scholarship
Kimberley A. Frederick, professor of chemistry, received a Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship to attend the 2018 Higher Education Resources Service or Institute at the University of Denver from June 18 to 20. Frederick was one of six recipients (among 70 participants) to receive the scholarship to the leadership program for women in higher education.
