Skidmore Spotlight: Nate Smith
Nate Smith, who works as an athletic communications and marketing manager in the Office of Communications and Marketing, says he has every Skidmore sports fan’s dream job.
“I get paid to watch and write about sports! It really doesn’t get better than that,”
said Smith, who supports the Athletic Department by taking photos and videos, creating
graphics and compiling statistics on game days. He also manages social media accounts,
writes press releases and even does some public announcing.
“It’s a rewarding career,” said Smith. “I especially enjoy the opportunity to work
with Skidmore’s talented student-athletes, supporting them as they learn and grow
in their sport, classrooms and careers.”
Smith said the athletics culture and energy of big events are some of his favorite
aspects of his job.
“Our student-athletes work really hard and it’s awesome to see their fellow students,
professors and community members come support them. You can really feel the emotion
at big games and special events, such as senior day games, hockey’s Pack the Rink
or basketball’s Big Green Scream.”
When he’s not with one of Skidmore’s 19 teams, Smith enjoys traveling and giving back
to his community. He was recently in Charlotte, North Carolina, helping a Carolina
Panther’s player prepare a toy drive.
