Skidmore Spotlight: MaryLee Thornton
MaryLee Thornton works as the Admissions events assistant, providing support for the
many large events that Admissions hosts throughout the year, including general open
houses, departmental open houses and Accepted Candidate Days. In addition, she assists
with the Porter Scholarship, Junior Admissions Workshop and Summer Institute and is
a member of the Visit Committee, which works to ensure the best possible visitor experience.
Thornton joined Skidmore in 2013 as the Admissions receptionist. When the position
of events assistant opened up, she felt ready for the new role.
Her favorite part of working at Skidmore has always been the students.
“They are so diverse in their interests and personalities, and I love hearing their
stories about day-to-day events, travels or their families,” she said. “Over the years
they have invited me to their performances and events, and I try to attend whenever
possible. I still keep in touch with some after graduation, and I love to hear how
they’re doing.”
When not on campus, Thornton spends as much time as possible at her family’s camp
in the Adirondacks.
