Skidmore Spotlight: Kelly Simons
Campus Safety Officer Kelly Simons helps to maintain safety on campus for students, faculty and staff. Since the onset of the pandemic, Simons’ role has also changed as Campus Safety has taken on new responsibilities as part of the College’s broader efforts to contain COVID-19.
“We have to ensure that we — and all students, faculty and staff — follow health protocols by wearing our masks, keeping our areas sanitary, washing our hands and keeping a safe social distance,” said Simons, who has often staffed Campus Safety’s critical overnight shift.
Simons, who started at Skidmore in 2015, said she especially appreciates Skidmore’s continuing efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“I am grateful to be a part of welcoming diversity,” she said. “The training that Skidmore provides has improved my communication and genuine interest in others’ views and their needs. My ability to relate and actively listen to others has also improved. “
When she is not on campus, she enjoys trail walks, nature, photography, art, fishing and traveling. Since the pandemic, she has also acquired an interest in virtual reality gaming, is studying for a certificate in cyber security and has even picked up the violin.
