Skidmore Spotlight: Meghan Nicchi
Meghan Nicchi, head athletic trainer in the Athletics Department, is responsible for evaluating, treating, and returning athletes to play from sports injuries. She is also largely responsible for medical clearance requirements and documentation for our more than 400 student-athletes.
Nicchi started at Skidmore in 2006 as an assistant athletic trainer and was promoted to her current role in 2010.
During the pandemic, she and her staff became the center of COVID-19 management for student-athletes with responsibility for COVID-19 testing, management of positive cases, and athletic protocol development and enforcement. She also served as a COVID-19 case investigator while continuing to manage sports injuries and other illnesses.
“I am so happy that the student-athletes are getting back to fully practicing and competing. There is really nothing like game day excitement, though it is still with some slight trepidation as we are not out of the COVID woods quite yet,” she said.
Nicchi said she values the spirit of teamwork that pervades the College.
“I work with a lot of areas on campus that help to make our student-athletes successful, both in the classroom and on the playing field,” she said.
When she is not on campus, she enjoys cooking with family and attending performing arts and sporting events with them. “I know, more sports,” she quipped.
