Skidmore Spotlight: Patrick Ives
Patrick Ives is a cook in Dining Services and works on a variety of cuisines and all stages of food production for daily service in the Murray-Aikins Dining Hall.
Ives started at Skidmore in September 2019 as a short-order cook and was later promoted to his current position.
Ives described how he and colleagues have pivoted to serve students with diverse tastes and dietary requirements throughout the pandemic by offering takeout meals and also serving those in quarantine.
“Food safety has always been the key point of operations but even more so during the pandemic,” he added.
Ives said he loves the diversity of the Skidmore community and enjoys learning more about the types of food community members enjoy. He’s also happy that everyone is back on campus.
“Seeing more students enjoy the Dining Hall excites me a lot. I enjoy seeing more students in person and the campus feels more alive,” he said. “I get to do what I love at Skidmore.”
When he is not on campus, Ives enjoys hiking with his dog, Jack, in the Adirondacks. He also recently completed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider Course this summer. “I have yet to acquire my first motorcycle but I'm working on it.”
