Skidmore Spotlight: Michael Wicks
Michael Wicks, lead painter in the Office of Facilities Services, heads a team responsible for making sure that the interiors and exteriors of all Skidmore facilities continue to look crisp and clean.
Wicks, who started his painting career in 1981, joined Skidmore in 2015. His responsibilities here have ranged from giving a fresh coat of paint to offices and residence halls to maintaining stripes on athletics fields and parking lots.
āSkidmore has a beautiful campus filled with amazing people, and I am happy to have this as my setting to work in on a daily basis,ā Wicks said.
When heās not on campus, Wicks enjoys spending time in nature: He has traveled throughout the hemisphere, from Panama to Alaksa and many places in between.
āI hiked in to watch bears catching salmon in a river with their cubs, and I even landed on a glacier in a helicopter. It is amazing not only to have these experiences but learn about conservation and preservation efforts,ā he said. āIn the warm months, youāll find me on my boat in Otsego Lake with my Labradors Freya Lynn and Lola Ann, who were recently certified as therapy dogs.ā
