Skidmore Spotlight: Tim Melville
Media Services Technician Tim Melville maintains, fixes, installs, acquires, and programs audio and visual technology at the College.
One of his priorities has been to standardize the setup of classroom podiums across campus.
After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Melville and other Media Services and IT staff also worked to rapidly transform Skidmore classrooms for online learning.
“Probably the greatest challenge with which I was tasked was to develop a way for our classrooms to function as hybrid spaces. For classes last year, I was given about 10 days to install 84 classrooms with microphones that would allow professors to be heard both over Zoom and through overhead speakers for in-person students,” he said. “We were all hands on deck.”
When he is not on campus, Melville enjoys designing and building speakers, playing music, playing board and video games, and reading.
