SEE-Beyond FAQs
Yes, SEE-Beyond awards can be used to cover tuition or participation fees. However, it is not the intent of SEE-Beyond awards to fund coursework at another institution unless the course is of special relevance to your academic plan.
Students may choose to use their award to pay summer tuition at Skidmore, but note that credit-bearing internships and independent studies require faculty sponsorship.
Yes. You may receive a salary or stipend of up to $2,000. T
To be eligible for a SEE-Beyond, the experience must be at a minimum 8-weeks (or 320 hours-we recognize the intensity of some experiencese may be fewer weeks with the same number of hours). You may put together more than one experience, but the experiences should all be relevant to the department to which you are applying. You may only apply for ONE SEE-Beyond.
Transformational experiences that are fewere than 8 weeks may be considered. Students will be required to write a justification, which must be supported by your department. Generally, these are 5 weeks or more and require a non-traditional work week, such as an archeological dig, performance workshops, etc. and are the equivalent of 320 hours.
No! You can (and should) apply for funding for your experience. However, if you receive and accept a SEE-Beyond Award, you must withdraw your application from SEF.
You are not elligible for a SEE-Beyond if you have accepted a Davis Prize, Summer Collaborative Research, SEF, or other Skidmore summer award.
All class years are eligible to apply for a SEE-Beyond.
That being said, departments and programs decide on the criteria for the candidates they put forward. We recommend you talk to your department or program. Preference is often given to rising juniors and seniors.
