Carl Ure
Carl Clinton Ure, a dedicated Skidmore employee for more than three decades, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024. He was 88.
Carl, who joined Skidmore in 1966, served as a maintenance mechanic both on Skidmore’s former downtown campus and its current campus until his retirement in 2002.
Colleagues recalled him as friendly, hardworking, and good at his job.
“During his many years of service to Skidmore, Carl worked hard to keep the place up. He was always looking out for students and faculty and did his best on the job,” said Assistant Vice President of Facilities and Planning Dan Rodecker.
“He was always very dedicated to Skidmore and his work,” said fellow Maintenance Mechanic Carl Anderson, who worked alongside him for several years. “When something wasn’t working right, you could go to him, and he usually had an answer.”

Ure (Renee), Patrick Ure, and Kevin Ure (Jennifer); his brother, Leon Ure; his sisters, Carol Irwin and Alice Pillsbury; grandchildren, Jason Caldwell, Scott Caldwell, Justin Ure, Bradley Ure, Cameron Ure, Greta Ure, and Elliot Ure; and great-grandchildren, Zachary Caldwell, Emma Murdy, Taylor Caldwell, Isabella Murdy, and Vincent Ure.
