Healthy Living

As with everything in life, we are developing a new understanding about the ways even simple, everyday things we take for granted can impact our lives. Dining and food, a casual pleasure for most people, can pose serious challenges and health risks for others.

With escalating diagnosis of food-related allergies and diabetes, the correlation of weight gain to heart disease, the growing understanding of what we eat and how it directly impacts how we feel, eating has taken on a new, and often challenging, priority in our lives. College life with its frantic pace and seemingly limitless temptations further entices us to indulge ourselves.

Recognizing that quality foods and well-balanced meals fuel academic success, Dining Services is committed to providing healthy cuisine choices and using fresh preparation techniques. Nutrition counseling is also available for healthy student living.

Consider the following tips for healthy living:

  • Eat a diet low in fat. Low fat diets tend to cut calories.
  • Indulge in fruits and vegetables. Studies show that people who eat more fruits and vegetables have lower blood pressure and a decreased risk of cancers of the lungs, colon, stomach, esophagus, throat, and mouth.
  • Include a wide variety of foods in your diet.  Healthy diet has variety to add vitamins, minerals and fiber.
